I still have about twenty tabs open with fics to read from Yuletide, so I don't have a rec list or anything (yet). But I do want to drop off links to what I wrote and the gifts I received. I both wrote and received three fics for Yuletide this year, I typically write two but I got super inspired to venture out of my comfort zone with a side of fandom I don't usually write for, so fic number three mostly wrote itself.
Here's the gifts I received!I cannot recommend this enough. I have only requested We Have Always Lived in the Castle twice and mostly on a whim because I don't really expect to get anything from it, but also because if I were to get something I know I'd be over the moon. This year as I was building my fandom list I went back and forth on both Shirley Jackson fandoms I requested but boy, I sure am glad I landed this one on my list this year. This fic by suitablyskippy is pitch perfect in it's voice in ways that make me feel like the ghost of Shirley Jackson rose for Yuletide this year and gifted me this 17k story of prequel perfection. I can't get over it.

“There can’t be anyone else,” I said. “There isn’t anyone else. No one else exists except you and me and Uncle Julian and Jonas; all the rest of them are dead and only pretending to be alive. If you married a husband he would be dead and you would bring a dead man into our home, so you can’t.”
(There was nothing a husband could do for Constance that I couldn’t, except take her name away from her and give her a baby.)

This was a good year for Shirley Jackson based fandoms. I fell in love with The Haunting of Hill House show on Netflix and though it's nothing like the book, it's also very much like the book. One of the things that the show gave us was this very interesting sibling relationship between older sister Shirley and younger sister Theo that I really wanted more of. There's a dynamic there that played so well in the show and younglegends gave me something quite wonderful in this.

Listen, don't judge me for requesting Nell/Theo from the show when I've been down the fandom rabbit hole that is Nell/Theo from the novel for years. Sometimes you just want smut for smut-sake and that's exactly what I got with this one and it's simultaneously messed up and wonderful at the same time.

Theo is a fuck-up in a family of fuck-ups, and she loves Nell more than anyone—yeah, even Shirley, even Luke. There’s no way to keep yourself from loving Nell. That’s probably why Theo does what she asks.
And, here's what I wrote:Typically I don't offer and request all the same fandoms but I could not help myself when it came to The Haunting of Hill House. I just fell in love with Theo as a character and was willing to throw my hat in the ring to write more. I really enjoyed the background relationship building they did with Theo and Trish and tried to build on that from Theo's point of view in this piece.

For a moment she tries to think of a way to soften the dismissal. Something about how it’s not really a first date kind of answer. Or something disarming about how the gloves had really come off. She’s had a lifetime to deal with glove puns, or other related jokes about hand-wear like mittens and muffs. Many of them were only fun when she was far younger, at a time all teenagers feed on ennui and innuendo.

Ozark is a nearly non-existent fandom as far as fanfiction goes. I didn't even know it had one before I saw this request on the list this year. I have to be honest here and say that this fic is 100% built around Marty's character because I found it super easy to write Jason Bateman's mannerisms into the way he expressions his emotions.

This is where I went completely out of my comfort zone. I adore Critical Role and its cast, but I don't typically write RPF. However, when an idea comes that writes itself, sometimes you just have to write it. That's what happened here. I barely even entertained the idea before I had the whole thing conceived and ready to write. I don't know that it means I'll do more RPF anytime soon, but it was a fun exercise for my own writing's sake.
