New Music Sunday

I spent a whole lot of yesterday listening to the Hadestown soundtrack again. I love it so much and it's taking up brain right now. At the same time I was also very deep into reading an 80k+ fanfic for Ted/Trent from Ted Lasso, because I wasn't originally sold on it, that season finale definitely had a moment, didn't it? After our party viewing over Zoom on Friday, my friends and I were definitely scouring tumblr for any and all mentions and I'm a little sorry I'm late to this party.
But anyway, on to music. I lost the big list I was going to listen to for this week's post, but I did manage to recover the history of what I'd already listened to, so I still have some stuff to tell you about, that you know, isn't about Hadestown and how good it still is. :D
First though, albums:
There are new albums this week [Spotify links]:
Friends That Break Your Heart from James Blake
In These Silent Days from Brandi Carlile
The EP EARTHRISE from Starset
In the Court of the Dragon from Trivium
And this EP Pluto from Jake Wesley Rogers (which if you haven't seen on TikTok, is definitely an artist to watch).
And I think this one was last week and I missed it, but Dearly Beloved from Daughtry
There's a bunch of new music from LP and this new song "Angels" is just wonderful. I love it. Some big romance era vibes happening in this video too, complete with lyrics.
One of my favorite weird indie bands, Lawrence has a somewhat new album, Hotel TV, out now and they've put up an acoustic version on their channel for "Don't Lose Sight". I feel like all their acoustic songs have a slightly gospel vibe added to the very funk sound of their music. I like it. There's also a very electric energetic feeling about these versions over their studio produced music videos.
And while I'm at it, if you want another dose of joy, check out the new video from Tank and the Bangas, "Big (ft. Big Freedia)". They are always a good time. Tank's raps are poetry with a Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez feel to them, but the band is just New Orleans vibes top to bottom and fun to watch perform. This feels way shorter than a lot of their songs, but packed full of infectious fun energy.
Some honorable mentions for cover songs this week [YT Links]:
Rachel Hardy - Good Riddance (Eurydice Solo)
Halocene x Violet Orlandi - Muse - Uprising
Violet Orlandi - Chris Isaak - Wicked Game
And for spooky season specifically:
Geoff Castellucci's low bass version of Monster Mash
