I recently got a Kickstarter game in the mail called Anamnesis. You can buy it for yourself at the designer's itch.io site here. I get nothing for that, just really like the way this is done and want to share it both for actual solo writing play and to maybe expand the way it's done in a different way.
So. First all. If you're a writer of ANY kind, and you ALL are (whether it's personal blogs, fiction, non-fiction, fanfiction, poetry... whatever) I think this could be fun. Plus, for those of you who like blog and/or other writing prompts, you've come to the (write/)right place.
From the book:
This is meant to be played alone, with a deck of tarot cards. Those of you who have been here awhile KNOW I love me a deck of tarot cards and while there isn't a specific deck for this game, I thought I would pick a deck for anyone that's interested and use that deck for your prompts.
In this game you play as someone who has woken up with memory loss. You don't remember who you are, where you are, or what you care about. You "play" by following the arcs for the story and using the tarot cards as prompts to journal about. Cards can be interpreted by the images on the cards (intuitively) or more rigidly by looking up the meanings of the cards regardless (mostly) of what the cards look like.
There are five arcs with three prompts for each arc of the game, so if you're ALL in, you'd potentially you'd write five (maybe six if you wanted to round it out with an epilogue based on the final card) journal posts based on the cards you're given. And again, what you write and in what genre (non-fiction, mystery, fantasy, thriller, supernatural) or format (poetry, blog/diary, fictional narrative) you like. Most importantly, there is no real RIGHT or WRONG way to interpret your prompts. Write what feels right to you based on the prompts and the cards I give you.
This is an odd writing game, so let me lay out instructions a little easier:
If you want to play (I hope you want to play) you don't have to share it online but I'd love if you did. If you don't, send me a PM or just come back here and tell me when you've finished an act and are ready for your next assignment.
Also one very last note: None of the prompts are specifically created to be bummers (not too dark or frightening) but if I think one might be a bummer you can ask me to skip those and pick a new number for you. So I'll include that in what to post in the comments.
For your first comment you can use this guide:
So for example, mine will look like this:
I think that's everything. 5 parts, 3 prompts per part. Write what your heart desires. I will definitely be playing/writing for myself and posting my own cards/prompts if people are interested.
Also if you think other people that don't follow me would be interested in playing along, send them my way (I'll keep this a public post but with screened comments). Screened comments are just to help preserve prompts in a more organized way so if people like it they'll be inclined to support the creator. AND If you like any of the prompts, or the idea at all PLEASE PLEASE go pick up the game from the creator, Samantha Leigh. It's $8 on it's own or for $10 you get it as a part of the community charity Bundle for Ukraine. So for $2 more you get 997 other games including this one.
I'll keep an unscreened comment down below for Q&A if anyone has anything.

From the book:
Anamnesis:
1) a remembrance of the past
2) Platonism. the recollection of innate knowledge from a previous existence

This is an odd writing game, so let me lay out instructions a little easier:
- Comment that you want to play and I'll assign you at random card from the Major Arcana that serves as a reference to the person you once were (the shadow of your former self)
- With your comment give me 3 numbers between 1 and 14 (roll randomly if you'd like, or I can), tell me if you'd like standard cards, or for me to choose from a themed deck (I've got 20+ decks so there are myriad options)
- I'll respond with 3 questions and the corresponding Major Arcana cards as your prompt (pictures of the cards can be included if you want a non-standard deck)
- You write your journal entry for that question - setting up the story however you like for yourself and then @ tag me in your entry with 3 more random numbers between 1 and 14 (use the same numbers or different ones, that's up to you)
- I'll give you three more prompts for your next journal entry
- Repeat until you've completed four entries, at which point, you pick of your own accord a Major Arcana (or I can choose one for you) that'll reflect your character's new self, how they'll move forward better understanding who they are.
- THE END? Finish out strong or keep going. Make it a full story using this character as inspiration, or just to think more fully about your own self and how you view your own identity.
If you want to play (I hope you want to play) you don't have to share it online but I'd love if you did. If you don't, send me a PM or just come back here and tell me when you've finished an act and are ready for your next assignment.

I want to play!
Your Name/Journal Name:singedsun
3 Random Numbers between 1-14: 5, 3, 2
Deck of Cards: Themed / Horror
Would you like me to filter out potential bummers? N
