New Music Whenever
Aug. 15th, 2020 03:19 pmThis week it was pretty easy to find some music I wanted to share but I've been tired all week and ended up just completely zonking out last night after work for several hours so I didn't get my post up like I wanted. If I wasn't watching Crown of Candy episodes on Dropout this week, I had music on. If you're like me, and like having new (to you) music on a more regular basis, I highly recommend subscribing to the NPR Music YouTube channel so you can watch the Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts. They're putting new ones up pretty every day and while I have other stuff I want to post from this week, I think every single one I watched this week was worth it.
Also, if you're reading this and it's still Saturday in the U.S. you can check out the Rolling Stone Live all day fundraiser concert. They've got new rock musicians like The Warning and Junkbunny and old greats like Halestorm and Melvin Taylor. It's going all day and even if you're just putting something on to have in the background, you're sure to find something you like. You can find it live here: (De)Tour. I don't know if they'll keep the whole thing on YouTube when it's over though.
I shared a song from The Main Squeeze last week and I couldn't help but share another this week because they covered Blackstreet's "No Diggity" and it's a really good time.
Speaking of Halestorm, if you're a fan you might know that they released a new EP yesterday called Reimagined. They did this lovely updated version of "Break In" (which is my personal favorite Halestorm song) with Amy Lee of Evanescence. I've really enjoyed all the "reimagined" versions on this new EP too. The last time I saw them, they were doing this lower-key, acoustic kind of sound with some of their songs not all of which are on this EP so I hope that means they'll be a second one of these.
We got a new Original song from Pentatonix yesterday, "Happy Now". I love the video for this, the build from black and white to color is really lovely. I always feel excited to see their original stuff. I feel like they have a very odd mix of late 80's early 90's aesthetics with art-pop kind of vibe that manages to be catchy and well-produced. It's great.
Yesterday also gave us a new song from Matt Maeson called "Giants" with this lovely lyric video. I absolutely love Matt's voice. He's one of the shows I was planning to go to for the first time in 2020 and missed out on. I listen to his last album, no lie or exaggeration, probably once a week since November. So I'm happy to have new songs. This one is part of a fundraising album for Save the Children.
What have you been listening to this week? New stuff? Old stuff? Share it with me, please!

Date: 2020-08-16 02:16 am (UTC)Gotta admit I rather enjoyed the Nickelback cover of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" for their attempt to make it more modern?
Daughtry had a new one I enjoyed, and Jack Ingram.
An artist I did not know this week, Dua Lipa, popped on my new releases because I do listen to Missy Elliot and she was featured on it... with Madonna? It was a good song, called "Levitating" and I will check her out further.

Date: 2020-08-20 06:51 pm (UTC)I listened to Marvin Gaye's album What's Going On for the first time ever. It's supposed to be a classic, but blimey the strings drove me bonkers, and I had to bail out during the fourth track. I've never liked Motown stuff, though. Not when I was a little lad and all those classics were on the radio, and not now that I'm an old fart.
One album that I keep coming back to is Teenage Head by the Flamin' Groovies. It's a dodgy title, but it's one of the most joyous albums I've ever heard. I first heard it when I was at art school, a wonderful time for me, so it has good associations, and when I was suffering from depression in the 90s/00s, it was an album that could lighten my day. Here is side one track one.
