New Music Sunday
Apr. 11th, 2020 02:24 amI have been more energetic this week than the past three weeks of sheltering-in-place/working from home. I've done some cleaning and a very rare bit of cooking (Matt does most of the cooking because he likes it and I'm capable of burning rice). I've also been using the temporarily free trial of the Downward Dog app to do some nightly yoga, which is nice and calming. (The app has a chair yoga option, with specific options for no standing or no leg work, which is great for nights I'm especially sore.) I started using it because I'm noticing a very specific anxiety driven weight in my shoulders and neck, you can tailor sessions to focus on those areas which has kept me from feeling too tight.
I don't know if it's because I've had more energy and been sleeping more soundly that has kept me off the internet more, or just my general disinterest of being on the computer at night after a full day of work in the same space. I am supposed to be working on my Camp Nano project but I'm just...not.
It's a wild time. Thursday was my last day of work for the week (we had Good Friday off because the stock market is closed that day) and I started the day feeling kind of shitty and faked it 'til I made it. I've been trying to find ways to make my team take the day/week a little less seriously, feel a little less overwhelmed. So I played my favorite pop playlist (it's full of 80's & 90's hits) to start off our meetings all day and then encouraged people to share songs in our team chat through the day. I kept my playlist going outside of meetings for myself and kept sharing those songs as really fun ones came up throughout the day. In the afternoon I had those team members with little kids ask their kids to draw us something for a show-and-tell. One of our team members has a little boy who showed us all his Legos and told us how they worked (a fire truck, a helicopter, a dump truck) and I think (I hope) it helped lighten everyone's spirits. I had Matt come say hello, we shared some dogs and cats on camera and just generally tried not to think about work for about an hour. I want to do more fun stuff like that.
If you're interested, I keep a playlist of auto-generated recommendations based of the song "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston around on my Google Play account and it NEVER fails to disappoint. There's also a radio station on there called something like "Mom Jean Jams" or something that's very similar. I'm sure if you build a radio station on Spotify based on that song, it'd come up with something very similar.
Honestly, for this week I want to just post a list of songs/albums that I'm enjoying right now. Most of these are new, but not all especially if you factor in my Whitney playlist from Google Play. So no embedded videos for this week, just a list of songs that make me dance in my chair while I'm working and forget about everything else right now. (This is mostly a mix of YT and Spotify links.)
What have you been listening to this week? Better yet, tell me what songs you would listen to during an emergency dance break.
