Let's ignore the news for a few minutes and try to listen to some pretty music instead. Of course this is the week I've not been much listening to much music, and am instead deep into some repeats because I need some stability for my poor fucking nerves. If you're the same as me, hopefully you too can take a few minutes and listen to something new, something fun. Or just pick an old favorite that makes you feel better and share that song with me in the comments.

HOWEVER, first let me recommend a pop music based podcast that I'm in love with. I don't listen to it every week, but when I do pick it up I tend to binge several episodes at a time. It's called Punch up the Jam [that link goes to the pod on Spotify] and every week the host and a guest pick a song to deconstruct both musically and lyrically and talk about their memories/knowledge with it. At the end of the show the host Miel (or one of the previous co-hosts if you go far back in their catalogue) try to make a punch up of the song (which is usually a fun parody cover). Sometimes a song is Unpunchable though, and that's great too. Before the close each week they share a fav new Unpunchable jam as well, so it's a good introduction to new music you might not have heard before. If you like podcasts and you like music, check it out. And if you want an episode to start with, go back to the episode for "The Call" by the Backstreet Boys with guest Brian David Gilbert (of Polygon fame). It was my intro in and that song is fucking wild. It's great.

Okay, now on to some actual songs.

I've shared metal covers from Brass Against before and now it's very exciting to see them putting out original songs of their own. This is their first original song called "Umbra" and I think it rocks pretty good. I love Sophia's voice too, she's always amazing and I'm happy to see her as lead on this.

Next up, look at this... it IS a cover, but it's Sting and it's for a good cause, AND it's a SoundCloud song. It's a cover of Otis Redding's "Sitting on the Dock (of the Bay)" and I think it's lovely. If you want to listen to Sting talk a little bit more about his relationship with this song, there's a video here on YouTube. If you want to support the Alzheimer's Foundation, the whole album they put together is here or SoundCloud here.

The Dixie Chicks takedown of GWB after 9/11 was absolutely ICONIC and totally won me over at the time. I'm so interested to see them come back with this badass attitude still intact for this song "Gaslighter". So please check it out. I mean...

"Gaslighter
Denier
Doing anything to get your ass farther
Gaslighter
Big timer
Repeating all of the mistakes of your father"

I'm not even sorry about sharing this again, but when I talked at the top about listening to a song over and over again, it was this new song from Haim "The Steps". It's so good, such a fantastic 90's rock sound. Very Sheryl Crow, very Frogpond, just great. So here's a live version of them singing it on Fallon earlier this week here. If you haven't heard this yet and you're a fan of like 90's women rock, check it out.

Sticking an album here at the bottom because I did listen to it this week and love it a lot. The new Megan Thee Stallion album, Suga, came out last Friday and it's totally worth the listen. Check it out on Spotify here.

The Dixie Chicks!! I'm really excited to see them come back, too. I still listen to their old stuff all the time. The lyrics of that new song are great but I can't make heads or tales of the music video.

for once a song I heard before you posted it! on CBC radio! As for the video I hope those women walk those boots all over Trump! It should get played EVERY DAY. p.s. anyone remember why they weren't around for so long? It must make them crazy how nobody has a memory longer than the time it takes to clear a fart from a room.
