I'm breaking in a newer deck to me and I've been pleased it with what I've read from it so far but since I've come across the Interview Spread (which I've seen a variety of places at this point), so I thought I'd give it a try and see what comes up. If you're not a Tarot fan, that's understandable, I'll put everything under a cut to make it a little bit easier to skip this post. As I said, I've used this deck a few times and I find the artwork simple and the book even simpler, so there's definitely room for getting to know how this deck performs given there's not much interpretation with the artwork itself.
This is the deck: The OK Tarot: The Simple Deck for Everyone by Adam J. Kurtz
The questions are as follows and I'll post the cards/answers below.
Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?
10 of Pentacles - The book describes this as Foundation, Genuine & Family. However I know this card is also about wealth but usually in a sort of family with security. I feel like this card is telling me this card has my back. That it's going to be a stable, foundational source of help for me. Given that I've been keeping it close to me since I got it and that I tend to journal in a book by the same artist that made this tarot, getting this card is pleasing to me.
What are your strengths as a deck?
Queen of Pentacles - The book describes this as Financial Stability, Nurturance and Practicality. I know this card has a sort of motherly intention, this nurturing vibe. Which I'm really appreciating for this question, as a kind of nurturing, guiding presence from this deck.
What are your limits as a deck?
Queen of Wands - The book describes this as Attractive, Poise, Independent. I feel like the Queen of Wands cards has this Beyonce-eque quality about it, this self-assured boss woman energy. And this deck isn't going for flashy, center of attention vibes. It's going to be soft but straight forward. No beating around the bush for dramatic flair.
What are you here to teach me?
10 of Swords - The book describes this as Defeat, Uncompromising Ends, Drained. Whooboy. I kind of high key love seeing this card here. I have a tattoo on my arm of a line that says "it hurts to become". This card, is the same as that tattoo. This deck is here to get me through some hard stuff, but stuff that will lead to good and better things. That's a friend for you.
How can I best learn and collaborate with you?
6 of Swords - The book describes this as Past Burdens, Caution, Unknown Future. This deck is asking for me to bring it the hard stuff. In conjunction with the above card, I really think this is about no being afraid of a simple deck answering tough questions when I need it to. This deck is about me too -- not something I should use for writing or creating in any other way. It wants my attention (I think all of these really powerful cards are giving me this vibe overall.)
What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
King of Swords - The book describes this as Intellectual, Rational, Dictator. This is a card for truth and clarity. We're not going to make big sweeping changes, we're going to meet problems as they come and deal with them decisively. I really like this. And I like that I have this King & Queen energy on my side with this deck overall. These cards of power and truth.
As a final bit of wisdom, I want to share the card that jumped out when I was shuffling the deck before typing out this little interview. It's the Three of Wands which the book describes as Achievement and Determination and New Beginnings. This is about progression and moving forward and I think that leads into all the other answers about really starting to address this deck with the difficult stuff. It's been a rough year so far and I'm only just recently feeling like that's been getting better, especially with my recent clarity about my job. So I think even though I already keep this deck close, I need to be getting it out more often.
I really enjoyed this interview and I feel better for having done it. I might like to do more of these as I begin to move all 20+ of my decks up into my room and onto the recent shelf I set up to display them. If you liked this too, let me know. Especially if you'd be interested in reading more of these. I plan to do them with other decks, but if people don't want to read them I can just keep them to myself going forward. Let me know. <3
