A Few Other Things: Makeup/Skincare
Since what you're likely to see in the near future is me talking about writing and upcoming deadlines for NaNoWriMo, Yuletide and Critmas (and maybe others), I thought I'd do something a little different. I've been mentioning that I set up a space in my bedroom that's kind of a space all my own where I can get away for an hour or so and wind down for the evening, use my altar space, use it as a vanity for my makeup... whatever I need for that time each morning and each evening. It's been so nice. I haven't been able to use it every night, but since I've gone back to work I've been sitting here every morning to put on my makeup.
I don't think I post a picture of my space, but I'm pretty proud of it so I like to show it off. It's changed a little bit since I took this one, but not so much. So here it is after I added the black velvet skull on the right side of the shelf my altar is on.
But, since putting this place together for myself, I've also been able to get a better look at all my makeup and break out some samples I've been sitting on.
I've had a couple of real stand-outs in the samples I last received and one real dud.
The dud was the "Hair Whiskey" by We Are Paradoxx. It was awful, it made my hair sticky and oily and it took two good washes before I felt like the smell of it (which hadn't been too strong in the bottle) was gone. In my hair it smelled like burnt and moldy candy. The worst.
Stand-outs though:
I also recently bought some full sized products that are really nice, the CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum, and the CeraVe Eye Repair Cream. I have a hard time with face products near my eyes because they're really sensitive. But both of these have been soft and gentle and the eye repair cream for sure has shown results in the allergy sensitive spots around my eyes.
Also as a little gift four myself, I bought three of the new Safyia Nygaard lipsticks from her collaboration with ColourPop. Not only are the nice and long-lasting with good color, but I've discovered that they make for a nice creamy base under my matte liquid lips for work. I am big on matte liquid lipsticks for work, because I want to be able to eat lunch and go to meetings and what not without worrying about my lipsticks. Layering these has been a nice trick.
Anyway, I hope if makeup/skincare is your thing, this post was interesting to you. I'm happy to answer questions, talk about other products if anyone has suggestions.
Otherwise, I hope my fellow Star Wars fans are enjoying the new trailer tonight. Leia's "Always" is PERFECT. I can't wait for December. A friend and I have been meeting each year for a movie when she comes down my way for Christmas with her family. We already have the day off planned the Monday after the movie release to go see it. :)

He's balancing the shelf out from the blue one I bought a few weeks ago.

Stand-outs though:
- The PUR 4-in-1 Cloud Cream. It's a Gel-to-Water Hydrating Essence Moisturizer. It's got a slight sweet scent straight out of the bottle, but on my face it melts and doesn't smell like anything. It's great though. I love a good water type moisturizer/refresher. My favorite is the Murad Nutrient Charged Water Gel, but that shit is expensive if you can't find a sale.
- Next, is the DHC Cleansing Oil. I'm not typically an oil/cream cleanser kind of person, but this shit worked really nice to take off a full face of makeup in one go. I'm sitting on a ton of my favorite cleanser (Best Damn Beauty's now sold out foaming cleanser) but I might pick up this one, or the next one, once I've run out.
- Speaking of the next one, it's the Grown Alchemist Gentle Face Cleanser. It's vegan, it's not very smelly at all -- a little scent of orange when you first open the bottle but that's it -- and it's just a smooth gel like cleanser. It doesn't get the eye-makeup as thoroughly as the DHC did, but it's still really nice. And both of them leave my face actually clean, not heavy.
