New Music Friday - albums editions

So, there's a couple of new songs I want to share but also while I've not been paying attention, there's a few new albums out too. I'm just going to toss them all in a single post and see what sticks as I finish writing. Forgive me if I'm a week or so out on some of these because this is the first time I've actually sat at my computer desk with access to everything in almost three full weeks. I've got access to more here than I do on my surface tablet. It's good for posting, but it's been real easy for me to lose focus on reading on the smaller screen. Anyway, let's get started because this is a big one.
Let's start with the full albums, links to Spotify as always. [If people are like me and use Google Play instead of Spotify, let me know and I'll include those links too. I just assume that I'm the odd one out here and default to Spotify and YouTube.]
It's been a metal extravaganza in the last week or so for new albums. If you're not into Metal/Rock these probably won't be for you. However, I will say the Nemesea album might be the most palatable to people who aren't big metal fans but like female led bands with a more ballad sound. (Tarja is also a female metal singer but she's very orchestral and I feel like you really have to go in already liking that style.)
Today we got the new release from Tool - Fear Inoculum and a new album from Tarja - In the Raw. And from last week there's Nemesea's - White Flag
Two other albums of note (for me at least). If you like one, you'll likely like the other. Both soft, ballad types.
Bon Iver - i,i and then Elenowen - Versions
First up on the single song front is a new to me metal band very much in the style of one of my favorites (Breaking Benjamin) called Fire from the Gods. I discovered them at random thanks to my unsettled scrolling of YouTube's recommendations this afternoon. I've listened to it a few times now and really enjoy it. Also worth noting how nice it is to see metal bands fronted by people of color. We need more of them.
Next up is a cover from Faouzia of a song I was really unsure how she was going to handle. But she gave Blue (Da Ba Dee) a soft, minor key take and I like it a whole lot. Well worth the listen.
And then there's this lovely new piece from Lindsey Stirling. The song is wonderful, but I was immediately in love with the choreography and cinematography for this video. It's beautifully done.
I'll round out these videos with a link to the VMA's 2019 performances video playlist. If you haven't watched the VMA performances, there are some standouts in here, namely the Missy Elliot song compilation. She's still such an icon. One of the great things to note about all of these performances of the use of the unique stage and lighting set-up. Not all of the artists took great advantage of what they could've done with the space, but those that did just blew me away. I kept trying to figure out how they managed some of the effects they were so great.
Honorable mentions for this week are quite a few (single song links to YouTube). Presented this week without much commentary because the songs sort of speak for themselves. Though if you only check out one of these this week, make it the first one.
And I didn't forget you playlist fans. I found two this week I really loved (Spotify links).
