What's this? An early new music Friday post? What can I say? Other than I've been stockpiling music for this post all week.

First up is a song posted a little more than a week ago. However, there was this really lovely Mahogany video posted this week, which is where I saw it first. But then I went looking to see if there was an official version of it posted, and there is. But I also recommend the more acoustic Mahogany version, which is just so lovely and emotional.

Next is the new Missy Elliot song, which I'm sure you're about to see everywhere. The visuals are that same iconic Missy look that you're used to. It's a fun bop and I'm pretty sure you're going to be hearing this one for awhile so you're either going to love it or hate it. This song is off the EP ICONOGRAPHY which dropped today (link to the EP on Spotify).

Last up (for the video portion of this post anyway) is this really great new Neoni song called "Never Say Die". I really like the kind of dance/performer visuals in this video too. This feels very strongly like a song that's FOR something? Like this doesn't feel out of place for a TV show or movie and I'm really loving it. I discovered Neoni like a year ago through this cover for "Carry On My Wayward Son" that this did on YouTube.

Okay not all of our honorary mentions this week are from this week, but I discovered them this week, so I'm sharing them with you.

  • Seconhand Serenade - Not Enough Secondhand Serenade of the early aughts is back with two new songs, this being the most recent. Love it.
  • Marisa Anderson - Lift I just learned about Marisa's music this week, she's got this instrumental guitar that's just beautiful.
  • Jonathan Young - Alone I've shared music from Jonathan before, but usually he does this amazing metal covers of Disney or anime songs. This is a new original from him, and it makes me really excited for the EP he's working on.
  • Pentatonix - Can You Feel the Love Tonight? Of course I had to edit this post to add this song. Pentatonix sure knows how to make a lovely cover, and Matt gets to sing a little in this one! It's real good. Also, damn Kristen looks good.

So I said in a post earlier this week that I wanted to start sharing some playlists when I found ones I really enjoyed. I have two this week.

  • Beauty is Terror by [tumblr.com profile] mahcaulay I found this on Tumblr, but it's an OLD post you can see here. It's a playlist for Donna Tartt's book The Secret History and the this playlist is a mix of classical songs and the big sort of dream/art pop artists of 2017 (like Lorde, Lana del Ray & Halsey).
  • It'll Pass... by [tumblr.com profile] eitherfearorlove I also found this one on Tumblr here and it's the Fleabag mix I mentioned earlier this week that made me want to share fanmixes in these Friday posts in the first place. I believe this is like a brand new mix as of this week, and I really love the collection of relgiousy pop songs that were included in this mix. The collection of artists here are definitely my style of indie pop/rock like King Princess & The 1975.

Long post is long, but I hope you find something in this you enjoy listening to.

This is really cool! I am especially excited to look at Secondhand Serenade again. That was one of those things I loved in my late teens but then felt almost immediately embarrassed by the cheese. Them and Dashboard Confessional. Whew.
