New Music Friday
May. 15th, 2021 02:09 amIt's technically 2am on Saturday morning but I've never been strictly timely about these posts as long as it's still that ephemeral time known as 'the weekend' it's good. I'm on late because I got a bunch of pages from work at 1:22am from old tickets that had SOMEHOW retriggered our pager from closed tickets a year ago. UGH
So, how about some music.
First up, this amazing new song from Shaman's Harvest. You've probably not heard about them, but if you like metal, the sort of rock kind where it's a little gritty, guff, kind almost leaning toward country? Shaman's Harvest is the band for you. They're a relatively unknown band, they come out of the middle of Missouri, they don't tour much and they haven't made a new album in like four or five years. But just ... listen to this, it's great. Maybe metal's not your thing, but did you like that Delta Rae song "Bottom of the River"? Or Bishop Briggs' "River"? Okay so this one is a farm vibe, not a river one, but the sound is there so give it a chance.
And if you like that and what something completely different go check out their cover for "Dirty Diana". OOOf it's good and I have a whole playlist built around it now for car rides.
For something COMPLETELY different, here's a new video from classical and hip hop violinist, Ezinma with somethin stunning to watch and beautiful to listen to. This is "House of Bach". And it's so good, she always slips so many good pop references into her classical pieces and I'm here for it.
And then one of my indie favs from YouTube finally put out her first actual full albume. dodie's Build a Problem is wonderful. And there are these interconnected lyric videos on her channel that lead one to another if you choose to. I had fun picking them all out of context. But here's a favorite, "Rainbow". I feel like dodie's videos sit somewhere between like 90s Alanis Morrisette and Jewel, but also are so clearly born of this influencer generation for the last of the millennials who started on YouTube in the early 00s. I really adore her sound.
That's a sweet one, but for range, I'd also recommend "Special Girl" which gave me very Alanis vibes. But like listen to the whole album, it's lovely.
Honorable Mentions for this week/recent month I guess?
If you're missing new music from Florence Welch/+ the Machines, check out Freya Ridings.
Need a man with a big voice who sounds like he's got a hold on your soul? There's a whole new album from Rag'n'Bone Man called "Life By Misadventure"
Want some absolute boy band nostalgia from the 90s? Take this new trio of new live recordings from ALL-4-One. They are just wonderful. This trio of live songs is "I Swear" (of course it is!), "I Can Love You Like That" and "Chariots". All of these are just PEAK absolute peak my childhood (when I was supposed to be just listening to Disney and classical like a good Christian. I wasn't. I snuck so many boy band cassettes as a teen. All-4-One was a strong favorite.
Hope your week has been better than mine. Let me know what you've listening to lately! You know I love new recs.
