New Music Weekend
Aug. 30th, 2020 12:58 amSo, I absolutely slept right through my doctor's appointment Friday morning. What a great start to my day. And I mean that -- I needed the sleep. I had a great birthday, for as low-key as it was. I got a custom-made necklace from my husband made by a place in town. We picked that up and they had two giant beautiful labrador's behind the counter. So like even if the necklace hadn't been that great, getting to pet to big labs was a pretty good highlight of my day. Plus it was just nice to have the day off. I rescheduled my appointment for Monday (for later in the day) so that'll still get done too.
Yesterday was the release of the new Billy Rafoul album, and on it he had this amazing song called "The Ballad of James Howlett". I watched a video on his channel the other day where he talked about writing the song and how much he loves Wolverine's story which inspired him. I love that people in the comments for this video are getting how the lyrics follow his story, it's great. Sometimes YT comments aren't all trash, especially for indie musicians.
Lawrence put out a new video for a new song yesterday too called "Quarantined with You". It's a sweet song about enjoying the time you have when you're stuck in this situation with the people you love, but also a call-out too for people to act safely. The video itself plays a bit with the tik tok trend of people passing things to each other from video to video, so that's cute too.
If you're not watching the NPR Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts on the NPR Music channel, you might've missed the two-song set from Billie Eilish & Finneas. She sing's "my future" and "everything i wanted" and it's a really beautiful stripped-down sound for the set. I also really enjoy that they spent time to put together a backdrop that matches the NPR Tiny Desk set up, so it's hard at first glance to see that they're not there at NPR performing.
Other music worth noting from this week (or last since I missed a post last weekend):

Other music worth noting from this week (or last since I missed a post last weekend):
- BUSH's Gavin Rossdale gave us a cover of "Heroes" by David Bowie in full video format
- The Main Squeeze gave us a cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade", so if you've been enjoying them, check it out
- Similarly the Two Minutes to Late Night channel gave us an all POC metal musician cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name" which is amazing
- Brent Smith and Zach Myers of Shinedown have released a few songs as Smith & Meyers on a new YT channel with some other clips; I love the original song they put out "Not Mad Enough"
- SIXX:A.M put a song out with a bunch of guys like Corey Taylor, Ivan Moody, Slash (and country guy, Brantley Gilbert) called "Maybe It's Time" as part of Artists for Recovery which supports Global Recovery Initiatives
- And lastly, another shout out to the Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts for this strange set from Tame Impala they with some looping sounds they jokingly refer to as Tame Impala Soundsystem
