New albums (album links to Spotify):
- Dermot Kennedy - Without Fear I shared several songs from Dermot awhile back when he did songs for the Mahogany sessions. He's an Irish singer-songwriter with a deeply soulful voice. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but from what I've heard already it promises to be good.
- Finneas - Blood Harmony We FINALLY got an EP release from Finneas. I'm in love with his songs, they have this pop/soul flavor with thoughtful lyrics. He's Billie Eilish's older brother, collaborator and often producer. It's godo stuff.
- City & Colour - A Pill for Lonliness This hadn't even been on my radar but I was happy to see this new City and Colour album. I've started listening to it, and I'm really liking it so far.
- MIKA - My Name is Michael Holbrook It's been a long while since we had a new full album from MIKA. I'm really happy to see this one. The good promises made by the video we got not that long ago for "Tiny Love" is made good here.
- Of Mice & Men - EARTHANDSKY
- Insomnium - Heart Like a Grave
- Suspyria - Regression
- Gatecreeper - Deserted
We have a few new metal albums, so I want to call them out separately. I don't have much to say about them individually other than how much I've already been enjoying them. I've been listening to these albums in a big playlist for the last few days as I've finished reading Gideon the Ninth, and I felt like I was always clicking back to Spotify to hit that little heart button between pages.
Lastly and real quick a few new songs you can watch on YouTube if you're not in the mood for a whole new album from someone.
I really hope we're getting an Avi Kaplan album or EP here soon, because I feel like he's been dropping these really good, resonant singles on YouTube and I want to just bask in like a whole album of his voice.
We've got a new song from Lacuna Coil; I think this makes two or three songs in the last three months, so they're clearly building to a full album soon. I wish I could see them in concert again soon but I think the closest they're getting to me is Minneapolis. If you don't know Lacuna Coil, they're a heavy industrial metal band with a female vocalist. They're from Milan and have been around for almost two decades now. One of my staples.
Finally an actual music video, a brand new song from the best cello-based metal band, Apocalyptica. This is SUCH a good song. I hadn't been watching for them to put out new stuff at all, so this new song caught me completely by surprise. A really pleasant surprise.
This was a heavy, heavy metal week. I hope for those of you that aren't metal fans found at least one good thing to listen to this week. (If you're new to metal or don't usually like it, I highly recommend that song from Apocalyptica just above. They're like if the cello section of an orchestra decided to make rock music.)
Anyway, if you've found something new to listen to this week, share it here. You know I like new stuff.
