I am so excited about the new Umbrella Academy show that Netflix has coming out in February. I was a big fan of the comic series and I think the show looks like it's going to be really good. So far it looks like they're sticking close to the source material too. The new trailer, which if you haven't watched you can find here has a cover version of The Bangles' "Hazy Shade of Winter" by Gerard Way. Aside from being pleased that Gerard seems to be making music again, this cover is really good. Yesterday they released the video below just for this song.

I'm a sucker for a good cover song. This one is big and upbeat and dramatic and I really like it. For a bonus, if you didn't know, Gerard released another new song last year around Halloween called "Baby You're a Haunted House". You can listen to it here here

Next, a song I just discovered earlier this week. This video came out in September of last year and I wish I had discovered it sooner. The song is really good, a little soulful a little pop and a little old-fashioned. Raleigh Ritchie plays Grey Worm in the Game of Thrones television series and I had no idea he also did music until I found this video this week. The video itself is also really worth watching.

If you like that, I recommend checking out his song "Bloodsport 15" too here. Sadly, he doesn't have much of a discography, so treasure the few songs there are currently available.

Lastly what I have is an album recommendation. Yesterday Maggie Rodgers "Heard it in a Past Life" came out and I listened to it for most of the day. I don't think there's a bad song on the album. Below is the song "Light On" which is a lovely song about finding your way back to the people you love. Maggie's music is a little Florence without the big budget theatrics. There's a lot of drama in her voice and in her lyrics, but the music is a little more stripped down.

Maggie did this really neat documentary early last year that's about twelve minutes long and it's about her process and her experiences in Alaska. It's well worth the watch if you like her/her music. You can watch it here.
