New Music Friday
Apr. 3rd, 2020 11:22 pmI almost forgot about this after calling out of work today with a horrible migraine. I woke up about an hour before my alarm feeling like someone had shoved a screwdriver in at my temples. It's hard to know how long a migraine like that will last, but I could barely keep my eyes open so I called out of work and put a hot pack on my face to lay down again. By midday I was feeling a little better but the pain has ebbed and flowed today with the storms we're getting and so I was kind of in a 'meh' space most of the day.
My new bluetooth headphone/sleep mask came this week and I've been listening to a lot of the singer/songwritery type playlists to sleep at night. So during the day my tastes have been a lot of all over the place, both with last week's In This Moment release and the new Dua Lipa album.
I will tell you that the new Ad Infinitum album came out today [album link on Spotify] and so did the new album from Red [album link on Spotify]. They're both a listen if metal is your thing.
She doesn't post very often any more but Yana Perrault came back to YT this week to post this lovely rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" and it's wonderful.
And the stories YT channel had Antwaun Stanley singing "Wonderwall" which made the song feel different and special and I really enjoyed it.
And then Morgan James put out an entire albums worth of covers with videos on YT and she did this one to Robyn's "Dancing On My Own", which then just made me listen to both versions a bunch of times because it's such a good bop. (There's also a video for her cover of the Backstreet Boy's "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" that I also thought was really really good.
In honorable mention fashion:
dodie is doing a bunch of demos of potential new songs on her channel all through the month of April. I really liked this one called "Please Listen Closely". Critical Role released a hilarious karaoke version of "Your Turn to Roll, their theme song for Campaign Two. It's so fun. And Chase Eagleson did a cover of Frank Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours" that's so lovely. He has this amazing voice for songs like Sinatra's the right tone and powerful depth and it's wonderful. Also, hilariously, stars of the West End Carrie Hope Fletcher and Oliver Ormson did a silly cover of a sillier song, "Thank You, Baked Potato" written by Matt Lucas. It's adorable.
Hope you enjoy. And please share what you've been listening to this week too.

I've mostly been going through all kinds of remixes for my new comm. So far I posted only stuff from past 2000:
Neon Indian - Sleep Paralysist (Com Truise 'Eyelid' Remix)
David Sylvian - A Fire in the Forest (Readymade FC Remix)
Daft Punk: Derezzed (The Glitch Mob Remix)
Massive Attack - Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix).
So next I want to post some 80s remixes, as they were such a liminal decade for that. I have 4 tracks queued up:
Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (Extended 12" Version)
Propaganda - Dr. Mabuse (Original 12" Version)
Yello - Lost Again (Extended 12") (one of my top favourites since childhood)
and of course Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Relax (Original 12") and Rage Hard (Blank & Jones So80S Reconstruction).

Date: 2020-04-04 01:02 pm (UTC)That sleep mask sounds nifty.
I went on a 60s/70s kick this week, listening to the Beatles, the Hollies, and so on. None of my New Release on Friday was jiving with me, but I will try to listen again tomorrow or tonight and see if it was just my mood.
