I was exhausted last night and stayed up way too late watching the Critical Role Monster Hearts one-shot, Cinderbrush. It was really good fun and reminded me a lot of a Buffy game my friends and I ran a really long time ago. Anyway, I didn't get to this post last night.

I know I've posted a whole lot of the covers they've been doing on the stories channel on YouTube, but this one is a real doozy. It's one of my favorite songs ever by The Police. I know that a lot of people don't like the kind of stalkery vibes the lyrics give off but for me this song has some real sentimental feelings for me. My dad you to sing it to me as a kid in this goofy, I'm always with you kind of way. As a kid of divorced parents, it meant a lot to me to have that with him. Anyway. This acoustic version is also being sung by Sara Niemetz, a voice from a lot of Postmodern Jukebox covers that I have fallen in love with over the years. She's got this husky soulful voice and paired with this kind of slowed down emotional version, it's perfect. I love everything about this.

I do feel like I should post this next one because if you haven't heard it yet, you're about to hear it everywhere in the next few months. It's the new Billie Eilish song and it's the new song for the next James Bond movie. Calling it a 'theme' song is weird, although we all know that the songs for these James Bond movies are kind of just that. Anyway not only is this song about to be everywhere, it's also really fucking good. It's got that perfect James Bond spy twang to it without being overbearing. It's soft and slow and really showcases both Billie's voice and Finneas' production skills and their lyric writing as a team. Also can we just give Billie some props for being the youngest singer ever to record a James Bond theme song. That's really cool.

A couple of years ago A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera partnered for the song "Say Something". For a time I was obsessed with that song, there was so much depth to it and between their version and the Pentatonix version of it, I listened to it literally hundreds of times. This week Christina and A Great Big World released a new song together, "Fall on Me". It's a really lovely song and the video is just pure aesthetic. With songs like this I'm just so invested in Christina's voice. She's got this big powerful voice and she's so great at putting emotion behind it when she wants to. This is a great one to round out this week's post.

I also have two follow-up honorable mentions this week.
One, "Go Crazy" by Leslie Odom Jr. which has this sexy tango vibe to it. I am really enjoying his new look and the This song feels very different from what we've seen from him before and I love it.

Two, "Like I Do" by Awa. She's a Swedish singer with a big voice, big vibes and looks like a younger Solange. This song isn't super brand new, but I hadn't heard it before this week and I've listened to it so many times since I first heard it. It's got strong "Good As Hell" vibes.

Aguilera has a truly spectacular voice. Sometimes you just wanna hear someone belt out a song capably, and she fills that niche. Thanks for linking it.

Odom with hair?! Oh my! On the one hand, it's not as distinct as the shaved head, but on the other hand... hey there!

I'm not sure how I feel about Billie's 007 song. I think it's going to be a bit like Sam Smith's 007 song for me - a case of "talented singer I like, decent song, but not up there with the best". Adele's "Skyfall" was definitely a notch up.

It's definitely cool that Billie's having so much success so young, but I do hope it doesn't place too much of a burden on her later in life.

Christina's voice still sounds incredible! I always feel she has underrated tracks floating around... Right Moves deserves more love, for example.
