Since it's the last night I'll be in the hotel and I'm enjoying some quiet time after a shower and wearing one of my favorite face masks, I thought I'd go ahead and put together a little New Music Friday Saturday post.
Since I've been at a convention since Wednesday evening, I haven't had the chance to really check out everything that's come out this week. But, I did get that book from my author friend to read (OMG it's this amazing horror novel that's already given me nightmares and I'm only halfway through) I've been spending nights in the hotel room reading and listening to music. So I do have some new stuff to share.
First up, is an entire album. It's not brand new as of this week, but it was posted to YouTube in the past two or three weeks. It's an entire cover album of Killswitch Engage songs called "Chillswitch Engage". It's completely instrumental and chill is the completely accurate description of it. It's amazing and the cover of "My Last Serenade" (my favorite of their songs) gave me literal chills. I love it. If you have an hour and need some background music for writing or whatever else, I highly recommend it, whether or not you know the original band.
This next video is brand new, it's Miley Cyrus' song "Mother's Daughter". The symbolism is blatant, it's a feminist manifesto about being who you are and about female empowerment. It's amazing to see the diversity of people featured in the video as well. Overall, I think it's worth a watch. When I get home and have some time to get into Photoshop, I think I might do a few quick gif sets from the video.
Last up, Anna Akana's new song "Pretty Girls Don't Cry". The song is good and as with Miley's song above the video itself is full of some pretty blatant messaging about the way women are taught to hide their real feelings, to put on a face (a smile) to deal with people they don't want to.
A few honorable mentions of songs that might not be recent but that I discovered this week and really enjoyed:
