I never thought "breaking up" was a thing that happened with friends or if friends did break up that it would be that much of a big deal. But then I had one of those ugly friend breakups where all the friends chose sides and I realized that this shit can be worse than a romantic breakup because I wasn't losing one person I was losing an entire friend group. I also had a friend who has herself now drifted away who went out of her way to tell me that I was in the right and that she knew the ex-friend was telling lies about me, but that she didn't want to get involved and speak up for me for fear of being ostracized herself. Just this group of grown women acting like seventh graders. It honestly took me a couple of years to even be able to think about it without feeling like I'd been punched in the stomach all over again. Now I'm mainly disappointed in myself for having not seen the red flags and walked away from those friendships sooner.
