Team Starkid: Black Friday
Mar. 1st, 2020 11:49 pmI don't know if anyone else is interested in Team Starkid's post-Potter works, but last night on YouTube they premiered the video for their most recent musical, Black Friday. Black Friday is a follow-up to "The Guy Who Doesn't Like Musicals" a unique story about a town called Hatchetfield that comes under attack by aliens. In this follow-up, the story again takes place in Hatchetfield where evil is trying to come through a portal on Black Friday when parents are in a frenzy to get a specific Wiggly toy for their kids.
I'll admit, I love the post-Potter Starkid musicals a ridiculous amount and I rewatch Twisted, Ani & B@man pretty regularly. But these two unique, non-fandom related musicals they've done in the last two years have been really amazing. I think as writers, the Lang brothers are really showing their talent in this last one. And it might be some of the best acting from some of the regular cast members that we've ever seen.
In order to watch Black Friday, you don't at all have to have seen "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals" though there are several callbacks that you'll notice if you have seen it first.
I have quite a fondness for unique musicals -- In fact, I was just listening to the West End production of Heathers on Friday while I was working on some reports. It's a lot of fun. Even if you've never watched a Starkid movie, if you're a fan of musicals I'd highly recommend this one.
