singedsun: the gravedigger from repo! the genetic opera holding up a blue vial (gravedigger)
Brought to you by a week full of migraines and what I'm pretty sure is another sinus infection. And then my mother asking me this afternoon over text if "in a pinch" tomorrow afternoon we could have my sister's baby shower at my house instead of my step-sister's house. Cue me texting back like the guy in that comic with his hands in the air saying *I GUESS*.

Good news is there's lots of good music from this week. I'm not sure of release dates, but I'm going to start with a couple of albums and EPs I know are very recent and then we'll do songs.

I listened to the new Nathaniel Rateliff album today and so far I like it although it feels a little softer over all. Maybe that's because the album is only under his name and not him as Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats? I don't know. It definitely has a more folksy less rocky vibe. But I'll definitely give it a few more listens before deciding how much i like it.

There's the new Amanda Palmer (& Friends) flash Charity EP Forty-Five Degrees [Spotify album link] for the Australian Brushfires which I definitely haven't listened to all of yet, but have played "Beds are Burning" because I have always loved that song.

One of my favorite bands did some remixing of their last album and came out with what is a MUCH better produced version of the album than the original (IMO), the new version also has a few extra songs and has been rereleased to streaming services as the album, Omegalith [Spotify album link]. Sadly, 9Electric has disbanded so this was their like final gift to the fans, this remastered version. And I kind of love it. I mean, they've always been a band that's better live than on the album, but I think their albums could've gotten there with this kind of production. Totally worth a listen.

To be fair to everyone I'm not about to show, there's a ton of new singles out from some really great bands like The 1975, Nightwish, Delain, Lamb of God and ...And Oceans. So like rock or metal, get thee to a streaming service and check them out. Otherwise I saw those good old The Strokes had something new out, as does Ozzy and Selena Gomez. So literally something for everyone. LOL Other YT musical gifts below the videos.

I know it's been awhile since I recommended Orla Garland, probably since her last EP release, but she put out a new one today called Freckle Season [Spotify EP link] and oh, man it's good stuff. Her style as an indie artist is very hard to pin down, she writes and sings and plays her own instruments but so much of it has like this late 90s grunge affect to it, that I like a whole lot. Most people probably won't get this reference, but many of the songs on this specific EP remind me VERY much of Frogpond -- this mid-to-late-90s punk girl band from Missouri [Spotify album link for Frongpond]. Orla does a mean ballad too, but this EP really grabbed me today right in my feels even though I've heard the demos of most of these songs through her Patreon. Anyway, check out Freckle Season, specifically "Do This To Myself" and "Oh God" the second of which I'm putting down below as the start to the video section too because it's my post and I want to.

I'm very excited about this song's we're getting in advance of the new In This Moment album. I got to see Ded last fall as an opener for... someone AH it was New Year's Day they opened for. They were serviceable as a metal band if not quite my style. However I do really like Joe's voice on this song, it's pretty great. I don't think they're on the ticket for their upcoming tour so I do wonder how they'll do this song on the tour (if they do).

There's also a new video out for "Do or Die" from Amaranthe, which I'm totally here for. This song also features vocals from Angela Gossow formerly of the band ARCH ENEMY and who hasn't really been seen since she left them. So it's cool to see this collab here.
