singedsun: the gravedigger from repo! the genetic opera holding up a blue vial (gravedigger)
It's the end of week 2 of NaNoWriMo and I hit my goal for today in the early AM and tonight came home to work on a bit of a buffer into tomorrow's words. I'm still kind of stuck in a certain kind of musical rut as I write, everything is coming off this same run of artists. However, I did find a couple of really standout performances this week worth share. So here we go.

First up, a rare live performance from Scott Bradlee's Post Modern Jukebox featuring Jaclyn McSpadden of "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. OMG it's lovely, and has a kind of gospel and yet also almost musical sound to it in this version that makes it very different from other takes on this song.

Monday, PMJ with Scott on the piano, also posted "California Dreamin'" with Maiya Sykes and man is her voice good. It's well worth the watch, but I'll warn you that it got caught in my head for several days after listing to her very social version.

Speaking of musicals, up next is this amazingly funny version of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" as part of the Shitty Broadway staged shows. In this video you get Mary Kate Wiles as Ariel and Robert Manion as Ursula. It's just a fun, funny take made better by both of their voices. If you like this one, I recommend clicking over to some of the others they did as a company like "One Day More" and "Agony".

And while we're doing covers, let's share this version of The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun" by Reina del Cid from last Sunday morning. I really love all the strings on this version. It's a deeper vibe and it's really rich and interesting. Makes you feel like you're watching it in person.

If you're looking for new metal this week, I was excited to see a new Otherwise album drop [Spotify Link] today. I'll be listening to that a little bit, for something slightly different. ;)

Hope you found something good to listen to this week!
