Tonight I checked off a bucket list item of mine, getting to see Amanda Fucking Palmer live and in person. Matt had bought us tickets in the front row which he says he told me but I didn't at all remember. So that was the most wonderful surprise to see again as we were waiting to get in to the show. I am in awe of the power and the intimacy and the love that was in that room as Amanda talked about the personal, private stories that fuel her songs and how this tour is about saying those things that are hard and awkward and uncomfortable to talk about.
I got to see her perform both my favorite song off this most recent album, "Drowning in the Sound". And my favorite song from her time with the Dresden Dolls, "Coin-Operated Boy". And there were two surprising covers in her set that were funny and lovely and perfect for the situation.
I have become so exhausted by everything lately. And while she shared these stories with us, I know that somehow, it made us all feel a little better. A well needed and appreciated catharsis.
